Miami- Dade Urban Debate League Internship

The Miami-Dade Urban Debate League (MDUDL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering students through competitive academic debate. We are seeking three interns for Spring 2026. Each role includes hands-on experience, mentorship from MDUDL staff and board members, and the opportunity to support debate tournaments and league events.

Communications & Social Media Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, newsletters, and internal communications

  • Manage Instagram, LinkedIn, and MDUDL website content

  • Develop digital campaigns to highlight student achievements and league impact

  • Capture and share student stories through graphics, reels, posts, and articles

Application Artifacts (choose 2):

  • A writing sample (press release, newsletter article, blog post, or op-ed draft)

  • A social media content piece (post with caption, reel, or short video)

  • A content calendar snippet (at least 1 week)

Development & Research Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Support fundraising and grant development by collecting/analyzing league data, maintaining a grants calendar, and drafting grant applications.

  • Assist with donor engagement through cultivation materials, sponsorship outreach, and community partner research (law firms, businesses, and organizations).

  • Contribute to impact reporting by preparing summaries for board members, partners, and funders.

  • Ensure sponsor visibility across events, including logos on flyers, social media mentions, and signage.

Application Artifacts (choose 2):

  • A research summary or policy brief

  • A grant proposal draft, fundraising letter, or case statement

  • A data visualization, chart, or impact snapshot/report

Curriculum & Instruction Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with student debate practices and provide constructive feedback

  • Collaborate with coaches on team development strategies

  • Contribute to curriculum design and instructional resources

  • Help prepare workshops and training sessions

Application Artifacts (choose 2):

  • A lesson plan, teaching outline, or workshop agenda

  • A debate drill, training activity, or instructional resource

  • A short reflection or write-up on supporting teaching/learning

General Expectations for All Interns

  • Assist with hosting debate tournaments and outside league events (roles vary by department)

  • Collaborate with fellow interns and staff to ensure smooth project execution

  • Work directly with MDUDL Board Members, who represent leading law firms, businesses, and universities — gaining valuable mentorship and networking opportunities

Internship Details

  • Commitment: 8–10 hours per week (some evenings/weekends required for tournaments)

  • Location: Hybrid – remote tasks + in-person events in Miami-Dade

  • Compensation: Unpaid, but eligible for course credit depending on your university’s internship policies

  2. Innovation & Improvement Statement (250–300 words): Describe what new ideas, strategies, or improvements you would bring to the Miami-Dade Urban Debate League if selected. Consider what could be strengthened, streamlined, or created within your department and how your contributions would make a lasting impact.

  3. Two (2) artifacts specific to the role you are applying for (see descriptions above)

  4. A 250-word professional bio (written in third person, suitable for publication)

  5. Optional Headshot: If selected, interns will be asked to provide a professional headshot for MDUDL publicity (website, newsletters, social media). You may include one with your application if available.
