MDUDL Hosts First-Ever Alumni Classic at Barry University, Reuniting Generations of Debaters
Miami, FL — December 14, 2025 — The Miami-Dade Urban Debate League (MDUDL) proudly hosted its first-ever MDUDL Alumni Classic on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Barry University, bringing alumni back into the league to support, judge, and mentor the next generation of debaters.
Held as Tournament 4 of the 2025–2026 season, the Alumni Classic welcomed former MDUDL debaters, coaches, and supporters to return to the space where many first found their voice. Alumni served as judges, connected with current students, and witnessed firsthand the continued growth and success of the league.
“This event was about more than competition,” said Kalyn Lee, Program Director of the Miami-Dade Urban Debate League. “It was about legacy. Seeing alumni step back into the league shows our students what is possible and reminds them that debate doesn’t end with graduation—it creates lifelong skills and community.”
Throughout the day, alumni judges evaluated multiple rounds of debate after receiving on-site training, reinforcing MDUDL’s commitment to accessibility and engagement for volunteers of all experience levels. Students had the opportunity to meet former debaters who once stood where they now stand, offering a powerful reminder of the long-term impact of debate education.
The Alumni Classic also coincided with a successful December tournament season, highlighting standout performances across divisions. Redland Middle School earned Middle School Team Sweepstakes, while Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School captured High School Team Sweepstakes honors.
